Tamati Matariki is a secondary protagonist in Twelve Thousand, living in the Modern World in 2018. He is unemployed professionally, spending most of his time at home online.
For the sake of clarity, Tamati's name (and Tamati himself) is Maori, not Japanese.
Personality
Tamati is a nerd. He is greatly invested in infosec and technology, and frequently forgets that other people do not share his same level of knowledge. He can be abrasive, but it's ultimately because he wants people to be safe and conscious about technology and security. His sarcastic attitude and loquaciousness make it difficult for him to explain his passions to others.
Tamati spends more time reading information online or messing with technology than talking with other people. This lack of a second opinion lends him to being caught up in misinformation, or being one-sided in conversation, only wanting to ramble about a new thing.
