The planet Earth appears in multiple settings — it is a foundational element in the Unityverse, serving as the home world of Mea Atsuki, Eindré Atsuki, and others connected to the Traveller Project, it appears in Twelve Thousand under the moniker the Modern World to distinguish it from The Tower, and it is the main setting in Two Halves and ~/shell.

The most relevant events to Earth in the Unityverse begin in 2056 with the occurrence of The Ripple, however there is one earlier event of note — in 2018 Suman Vidya holds a talk in New Zealand to propose the existence of a form of collective unconscious and the medical applications of it.
The conference is laughed off by the press and medical community, however Eindré Atsuki still makes use of her research and theory years later, when using technology to communicate with the Traveller in 2060.
By the 2100s, all human life has vanished from Earth.

In the thread of events starting with Twelve Thousand, reception to Suman's conference is more lukewarm-to-positive. As of the events of Twelve Thousand however, the consequences of the paper are unknown.
Meanwhile to this in 2018, the Daemon App is distributed online by an unknown source that enables humans to transform into their Daemon selves.

In the 2050s, Cyberdyne Interconnections is founded and begins selling full-dive virtual reality pod technology. In the background they work on development of robotics for AI labour. They would eventually split into the government-owned Ministry of Cybernetics and a separate Cyberdyne
In this thread of events, while the Traveller Project does not come to exist, Eindré still researches and publishes personal findings about the way the brain interfaces with technology. This research goes towards the improvement of Cyberdyne's technology. The Electronic World and Sensory Virtualisation Bill of 2064 is written from these findings to require that all technology that directly intercepts a user's senses to undergo independent assessment.
At some point in the 2150s, Jozuah becomes the first fully digitised human mind.
In the 2170s, Shells are made available to the public through hospital-like public clinics.
